Construction Methods and Techniques for Flood Control and Drainage Structures

Department of Public Works and Highways Region 2

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Flood control and drainage structures are essential components of infrastructure systems, ensuring the safety and well-being of communities. As DPWH engineers are involved in the planning, design, and construction of flood control projects, it is crucial for them to have a solid understanding of the construction methods and techniques specific to flood control and drainage structures. This seminar aims to address the need for specialized knowledge in flood control and drainage construction and equip DPWH engineers with the necessary skills to successfully manage and supervise flood control projects. By focusing on DPWH standards and specifications, quality control measures, and practical problem-solving, this seminar aims to enhance the participants' ability to deliver effective flood control and drainage structures that mitigate the risks of flooding and ensure the efficient management of water resources. Additionally, the seminar highlights the importance of sustainability and environmental considerations in flood control projects, promoting responsible engineering practices.
OBJECTIVES
General Objectives:

- To familiarize DPWH engineers with the different construction methods and techniques used in flood control and drainage structures.
- To enhance participants' understanding of the planning, design, and construction processes involved in flood control projects.
- To equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively manage and supervise flood control and drainage projects.
- To promote compliance with DPWH standards, specifications, and guidelines for flood control and drainage structures.
- To provide participants with practical solutions and remedial measures for common challenges encountered in flood control projects.
- To emphasize the importance of quality control and adherence to safety standards in flood control and drainage construction.
- To develop participants' awareness of environmental considerations and sustainability in flood control projects.
- To enhance participants' understanding of the maintenance and rehabilitation techniques for flood control and drainage structures.
