PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Course Description:
The 2023 INSET for Junior High School Teachers is a three-day seminar-workshop for teachers handling Grades 7-10 in private schools. The INSET is a support program of GASTPE which PEAC co-implements with the Department of Education. The JHS INSET is offered in two tracks namely Regular and Advanced. The Regular Track includes the additional subjects covering a total of 10 subjects and the Advanced Track covers 5 subjects.
In light of recent concerns regarding learning loss during the national school shutdowns and widespread remote learning practice, the general aim of the 2023 INSET program is to equip teachers in Junior High Schools with a system for undertaking learning recovery in their schools. Through this system, teachers will gain skills that enable them to analyze data about students’ performance, identify gatekeeping or power standards and competencies, utilize research-based interventions that facilitate learning recovery and ensure mastery, design differentiated learning materials for various levels of student achievement, and prepare a standards-based learning recovery plan. Teachers will also learn how to evaluate their plan, instructional materials and assessments in line with the 2018 Certification Assessment Instrument (CAI). In turn, the teachers’ workshop outputs of standards-based learning recovery plan, instructional materials, and assessments may become part of the school’s exhibits and evidences for the school’s recertification.
The theme of the 2023 INSET for JHS Teachers is Achieving Students’ Mastery and Differentiating Instruction for Standards-based Learning Recovery. Teachers in the three-day workshop will acquire the following knowledge and skills:
· preparation of a Standards-based Learning Recovery Plan;
· unpacking of missed or partially covered learning standards and competencies and evidences
of student mastery;
· design of differentiated learning materials and assessments to address learning loss and
facilitate student mastery
