PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Philippine Department of Health (DOH) in order to assist health care facilities during COVID-19 has released Department Memorandum 2020-0170 that will guide all healthcare facilities in the country in the management of health care wastes, more particularly COVID-19 related infectious wastes. The proper management of health care wastes, especially infectious wastes ensures that health care workers including waste cleaners, collectors, and handlers are protected against the COVID-19 virus and are able to perform their duties without the threat of infection. Health care facilities are expected to work on their health care waste management systems according to the prescription of the DOH released Health Care Waste Management Manual, which is now on its 4th edition.
OBJECTIVES
The course will discuss the following core competencies, namely 1) understanding health care wastes its types, <br/>composition and categories, 2) understanding the process in creating a functional healthcare waste management <br/>system, and 3) understanding the risks associated with poorly managed health care wastes, and how to avoid <br/>infection of health care workers.
