Looking Beyond: Training-Workshop on Strategic Planning for Agriculture and Fisheries Extension (AFE) Stakeholders

Agricultural Training Institute

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
With recent global and local trends affecting the agriculture and fisheries sector as well as foreseen structural and fiscal reforms brought about by the implementation of the Supreme Court ruling on the Mandanas-Garcia cases and the Provincial-led Agriculture and Fisheries Extension System (PAFES), the agriculture and fisheries extension (AFE) services role in advancing grassroots agriculture and fisheries development has been increasingly vital. Therefore, it is crucial for AFE stakeholders to go back to the drawing board to develop a strategic plan for AFE mapping out innovative strategies for the next six years (2023-2028). As a step towards this realization, the ATI-PPD will implement this five-day face-to-face training for 35 AFE stakeholders (ATI, BFAR and LGU representatives) to equip them with appropriate knowledge and skills in strategic planning so that resources would be better allocated and utilized. The outputs from these trainings shall serve as major inputs in the development of the national AFE strategic plan. With the next AFE strategic plan in place, AFE stakeholders will be prepared in the changing landscape of the country’s agriculture and fisheries extension services. Thus, bringing closer to the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) vision of a food-secure and resilient Philippines with empowered and prosperous farmers and fisherfolk. Generally, the training-workshop aims to strengthen the competencies and capacities of the participants in formulating an Agriculture and Fisheries Extension Strategic Plan for 2023-2028 for their respective regions/province.
