PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This is a five-day competency-based training for health workers that focuses on developing the skills, knowledge and attitude and values required to provide quality family planning services. The skills learned by the participants will be measured by means of pre-established criteria (expected performance) in an observation checklist. The course incorporates adult learning principles which builds on the participant’s experiences and encourages active involvement in the learning process. It also integrates the concepts of Gender, thus developing Gender Lens which is of prime important in Family Planning Services. Training methodologies will depend on the Knowledge, attitude and skills required for learning. Most sessions require individual and group exercises, demonstration and return demonstration, and role plays while some inputs will utilize brainstorming and simulation exercises. For the procedures, checklists are used to assess learnings for the whole duration of the training.
For the evaluation of the course and participants progress, two levels will be used. The first level is Learning evaluation which is based on the result of the pre and post-tests. Each participant must comply with the training requirement before they are certified as service providers. After 6 months, the participants are evaluated for the Impact evaluation
