PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Local Government Code provides for the devolution of basic services to the local government units (LGUs). Put simply, the delivery of social welfare and development (SWD) programs and services in the LGUs is primarily within the domain of local social welfare and development offices (LSWDOs). With this in mind, local social workers are key players in working for the best welfare and interest of the vulnerable, marginalized, and disadvantaged sectors in the localities. Special laws further emphasized the roles and responsibilities of local social workers in handling children-in-conflict with the law, children-at-risk, survivors of violence against women and their children, adoption, and other cases affecting rights of vulnerable groups. This noble mandate shall, however, be complemented with continuing professional development towards excellence in case management. After careful assessment, the conduct of forensic social work training would provide a potent opportunity to capacitate local social workers in managing cases involving legal issues or relating to the legal system. This training aims to elucidate the significant role of social workers at the intersection of social services and the legal framework. Participants will delve into the multifaceted aspects of forensic social work, encompassing assessment, intervention, and advocacy within a legal context. To equip partners from the LSWDOs of Apayao with the requisite skills for effectively fulfilling their roles in implementing and practicing forensic social work in the pursuit of justice and healing, there is a pressing need for an intensive capability-building activity to enhance their capacities. The three-day capability building activity will focus on topics on adoption and alternative child care to wit: Learning Session 1: Understandings Forensic Work in the Philippine Setting to be discussed by Mr. Johnny L. Bumakil, SWO II of DSWD Field Office CAR TAAORSS Learning Session 3: Forensic Social Work and the Philippine Court Procedure to be discussed by Atty. Shareene F. Pangesfan, PDO II of DSWD Field Office CAR Social Technology Unit Learning Session 4: Social Worker as a Witness (What are the things to observe) to be discussed by Atty. Dario V. Aguila, Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 9 Learning Session 5: Court etiquette to be discussed by Atty. Dario V. Aguila, Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 9 Learning Session 6: Court Observation to be discussed by Atty. Dario V. OBJECTIVES

Terminal Objective: <br/>At the end of the capability-building activity, the participants will be familiarized with court procedures and can manage court related manners in an efficient and effective manner.<br/><br/>Enabling Objectives: <br/>Participants will be able to provide effective and ethical support to individuals and families involved in forensic processes. Specifically, to achieve the following:<br/>Explain the role of social work within forensic context, including the legal system, criminal justice processes, and interface between social work and the law.<br/>Identify legal terminologies, procedures, and systems relevant to social work practice in a forensic setting. This includes understanding court processes, legal documentation, and the pillars of justice.<br/>Acquire skills in crisis intervention techniques tailored to the unique challenges faced by individuals involved in legal matters. This may include understanding the emotional and psychological impact of legal proceedings on clients.<br/>Determine specialized assessment techniques relevant to forensic social work. This includes assessing risk factors, conducting psychological evaluations, and understanding the impact of legal involvement on clients and families.<br/>
